Scarlet & Jess

We are really enjoying Scarlet. (formerly known as Anza)  She is such a strong personality, yet so sweet.  She is now 2nd in command in our little herd of 5 and has her sights set on head horse, Ace.  She smooooth talks him.  We have been working on her ground manners, especially with her leading manners.  She does know her own strength and would shove anyone aside between her and her goal destination  She is so much better now but she still has her moments.  All of us work with her, Bob, Jessica and myself, in the same way so she knows we all expect the same thing.  She is a smart girl.  It is a joy to have her trot to us across the pature just to see us.  She canters with the boys when everyone is playing and generally seems to feel good.

Our vet checked her thyroid level when she first came and found it to be high but with adjustments in her medication his re-check found it is now at normal levels.  She weighs the same but our vet told us to think long term with adding weight, and he is pleased with her.

We ride her gently now, on our woods trail as well as around our neighborhood circle where she ets to see many other horses, dogs, and the dreaded llamas.  As you can see from her blog she is not fond of them but will walk by their pasture now instead of backing up halfway back home!

Katie and Sandy, you are always welcome at Walkabout Farm and thanks for checking in with us.

Olivia
