Cheyenne was part of a large herd of Saddlebreds that were seized by Cabarrus county law enforcement in
1999. It was one of the worst cases ever seen by the county. Scores of horses died under deplorable conditions
and their owner was convicted of abuse. Cheyenne and
her pasture mate, Sophie, went to a home in the mountains where they lived for many years and under went rehabilitation and
received the most basic of training. Unfortunately, their new family was not able to keep both horses and they eventually
arrived at the HPS sanctuary. Sophie quickly found
a new home but Cheyenne has not been so lucky.

Cheyenne is in our training program and is being ridden by several of HPS members. She loves to ride and we have
to laugh at the way she always lets out a harty nicker whenever her rider dismounts. Cheyenne has done some trail riding
also. She can still be a little skittish around loud noises but she shows daily improvement.
She has an easy going nature and loves personal attention. Cheyenne was beautiful, ground manners. She leads,
loads, and tacks up very easily. She's English trained but we also have used western tack on her. Cheyenne
is healthy and has not had any health issues since arriving at the sanctuary. We feel she would make someone a wonderful
trail horse or a dressage prospect. She is appropriate for an experienced, light rider.
