Legacy returned to the sanctuary this winter when the family he was placed with several years ago could no longer care for him.  HPS make a policy of following up on horses that have been placed in new homes and a phone call to his new people indicated that there were problems.  The father had medical problems and with the drought situation they were not able to feed the Legacy and his pasture mates anylonger.

Legacy is now looking for a new home.  Legacy was starved when he was young so at 14 hands he is small for his breed but he makes up for size with his big heart and big attitude.  Today Legacy absolutely glows with health and loves to race the other horses around the pond.

Before Legacy was rescued, his owner kept him locked in a small shed.  In the evening Legacy's owner would ride him to a local bar and leave him tied up all night until he was ready to drunkenly ride him home and lock him back up in his shed again.  Legacy endured this abuse for years.

One of our young members worked with Legacy regaining his trust and getting him under saddle to help place him in a home.  Legacy found a home with a nice family but their circumstances changed and they returned him to the sanctuary.

Once again one of our young members is working with Legacy.  Legacy is a small, sturdy horse with lots of energy.  He is western-trained and a pleasure to ride.
