Rosebud was rescued from an previously convicted animal abuser.  When the police came to arrest this person for another crime, they found many animals living in abuse.  Among them was a dainty black Hackney Pony.  The poor little mare was in a field and hobbling about on 3 legs.  She had been in a terrible accident resulting in the loss of the use of her left leg and the vision in her left eye.  She had never received any treatment from a veterinarian but had somehow learned to walk with only 3 legs.

Since arriving at the sanctuary, she has been receiving deep tissue massage therapy from Janet McGuigan and acupuncture from Dr Lisa Busco.  HPS volunteers do light massage and treat her leg with DMSO twice daily. She also receives muscle relaxers and Adequan injections.

Rosebud was severely traumatized and only one 10-year-old little girl is able to approach and touch her when she is in her pasture.  Her friend, Jelly Bean, the miniature horse stands guard over her while she sleeps in the pasture.

Update 6/16/08:  Additional radiographs have been taken and Rosebud is being evaluated for surgery.
