Cheif's story as it appeared in the December 2019 Newsletter. You find the property you have dreamed about, but there was a surprise …. a horse was left behind. He is a beautiful gray Arabian that moved like the wind in the field. The lure of a free horse momentarily overcomes good sense. Like so many people, they don’t know anything about horses.
Chief is 14 years old and never been trained to ride. The responsible thing would be to send him to an excellent trainer. Time marches on, and the proverbial life changes. (And I am not referring to winning the lottery.) Not all changes in life have to do with a shortage of funds. Now, what do you do with your 14-year-old untrained Arabian gelding? Of course you call HPS since we helped out with another horse they had taken in that had severe DSLD in the final stages.
Tori and Justin McLeod of 4 Hooves Large Animal Services worked with Chief to help him learn to load and delivered him to the sanctuary. The owners kindly donated funds to help with the cost of Chief’s training.
