Penny's story as it appeared in the November 2021 newsletter. Sometimes life deals sad blows. The owner had a long list of sad issues and to get help, she had to return to Ohio for care with her health issues. She was down to the last few days and had been unable to find a home for the mare. HPS will always help if at all possible in emergencies.
It was not a possibility to leave her with her husband, which could be very detrimental for the horse according to the owner. No veterinarian care had been done while she had the horse. No vaccines or dental care had been done over the years. Correct deworming is important and has been done by HPS. The mare is supposed to be about 14 years old and a Quarter horse. She also has been by herself all the time the past owner had her. She was so excited to see the other horses from a distance. It causes extreme stress when horses are by themselves. It is impossible for a horse to feel safe without a companion. She will be given Aloe Vera juice to help the ulcers. Once she was dewormed and had her rabies shot she was introduced to another horse.
